AI search optimization
Get your business into AI-generated answers
Customers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity for recommendations. Find out whether AI mentions you, how it describes you and who it recommends instead.
The problem
Sound familiar?
No idea what AI says about you
You can check Google rankings, but there's no simple dashboard for AI answers.
Competitors get recommended instead
AI tools name other businesses when people ask for options in your category.
Inaccurate descriptions
Out-of-date or inconsistent information online leads AI to describe you wrongly.
What it costs
Why it's worth fixing
- Potential customers rule you out before ever visiting your site
- Competitors build up trust and visibility in AI answers while you're absent
- Effort spent on generic GEO advice that doesn't fit your situation

Checklist
AI Search Optimization checklist
- Your homepage and About page state plainly what you do, who for and where, in the first few sentences
- Key service pages answer the common questions customers ask, in visible text, not only in images or PDFs
- Your business details are consistent across your website, Google Business Profile and directories
- Organization or LocalBusiness schema matches the visible information on the page
- Your robots.txt doesn't accidentally block the crawlers you want (check before changing anything)
- You track a fixed set of questions in AI assistants each month, knowing answers vary between sessions
Worked example
Example: an accountant missing from AI answers
An accountant asks ChatGPT and Perplexity for "accountants for freelancers in Leeds" and never appears. Their homepage says "Your numbers, our passion" and doesn't mention freelancers or Leeds in the text.
They rewrite the opening of the homepage to say exactly who they help and where, add a page answering freelancer tax questions, and fix an outdated address on two directories. Over the next few months they check the same ten questions each month.
AI answers change often and no one controls them, so this is about making the business easier to understand and verify, not a guaranteed placement.
Troubleshooting
If something isn't working
AI tools describe your business incorrectly
Search for the wrong detail. It usually comes from an outdated directory listing or old page you can correct.
Competitors are mentioned and you aren't
See which sources the AI cites (Perplexity and AI Overviews show links). Those are the sites where being listed or reviewed matters.
Results differ every time you check
Expected. Track trends across several questions and several weeks rather than one answer.
